Too Many Frogs!

by Ann and John Hassett

Summary: With rapidly increasing numbers of frogs coming out of her basement, Nana Quimby asks assorted neighborhood children for help, but finally it is up to her to come up with a solution.

This is a fun and silly book great for reading aloud. Children can practice adding increasingly larger numbers during this repetitive story. This book can also be used to discuss exaggeration and estimation.

Kiss Me! (I'm a Prince!)
by Heather McLeod

Summary: Ella meets a prince that has been turned into a frog and shows him the fun he has been missing as a member of royalty.

This is an adorable fractured fairytale! The pretty, though tomboyish looking girl, is a great character. If your child takes the “I am a princess” play a little too seriously, this is a great book to share with her.

Ribbit Rabbit
by Candace Ryan

Summary: Frog and Bunny are the best of friends, even though sometimes they get into fights.

This delightful story filled with onomatopoeia. Involve children in this story by asking them to imitate the sounds in the book.

Leap Back Home to Me
by Lauren Thompson

Summary: A little frog makes increasingly bold leaps out into the world, and then comes back to his mother after each excursion.

This is a sweet mother-child story. The rhythm of the text makes the book great for sharing with very young children at bedtime.

Croaky Pokey

Croaky Pokey
by Ethan Long

Summary: Frogs sing and do their own version of the Hokey Pokey.

This is a superb interactive book. As a modification of “The Hokey Pokey,” I am inclined to sing and dance to this version at a future storytime!

Librarianjk recommends City Dog, Country Frog

City Dog, Country Frog
by Mo Willems

Through the seasons, whenever City Dog visits the country he runs straight for Country Frog's rock to play games with him, but during the winter things change for them both.

This book is an emotional one that allows for much discussion. The watercolor illustrations are beautiful.

Librarianjk recommends Tuesday

Tuesday
by David Wiesner

Summary: On a Tuesday night, frogs float through the air on their lily pads and explore people’s houses.

This book is interesting to say the least. As with all wordless picture books, an adult may ask a child to create a story from the pictures.
