The Pirates of Plagiarism
by Kathleen Fox

Summary: A pirate crew's plan to capture Mrs. Finch, the librarian, and a treasure chest in the library is foiled when a group of students come into the library to do research.

The humorous aspect of this story will be enjoyed by young ones, but most likely not completely comprehended by primary school students. I recommend this book as a read aloud for older elementary school students. The story is wonderful for discussing values, especially cheating and plagiarism.

Pirate vs. Pirate: The Terrific Tale of a
Big, Blustery Maritime Match
by Mary Quattlebaum

Summary: One pirate from the Atlantic Ocean and one from the Pacific Ocean meet and have a contest to see who is the best pirate in the world.

As mentioned in the title, this is a terrific tale. At first glance it may appear to be a story that will appeal more to a masculine crowd. However, one of these pirates is a woman, and the ending might surprise boys and girls alike. This is a lengthy tale; it is most appropriate for an older crowd.

Small Saul

Small Saul
by Ashley Spires

Summary: Small Saul is a different kind of pirate. Will Small Saul be able to prove his worth as a pirate or will he be thrown overboard?

This is an amusing story that can be used to discuss the idea that height is not necessarily important and that everyone has worth.

This story is amusing and fun. It is wonderful for discussing the meaning of the words fortunately and unfortunately, and luck in general.

Librarianjk recommends A Pirate's Guide to First Grade

A Pirate's Guide to First Grade
by James Preller

Summary: A young pirate and his crew embark on a grand adventure when they board the bus for the first day of first grade.

This is an awesome pirate book! I recommend it to anyone who like likes the way pirates spoke. This may be a little confusing for the very young, but there is a vocabulary section in the back for all pirate terms mentioned.

Librarianjk recommends The Amazing Voyage of Jackie Grace

The Amazing Voyage of Jackie Grace
by Matt Faulkner

Summary: A young boy's imagination takes him on a wonderful adventure

This book was published in 1987; by today’s genres it would be called a graphic novel. Its format is similar to a comic strip. This is an excellent adventure picture book. The illustrations are fabulous!
