Henry's Heart: A boy, his heart, and a new best friend
by Charise Mericle Harper

Summary: When Henry falls in love, his heart reacts strangely.

This is a neat book. The first half is about the real heart in our chests. Then, the text becomes a story about love and what makes hearts beat faster. The book’s illustrations are cartoonish and include many captions and fun diagrams.

I've Got an Elephant

by Anne Ginkel

Summary: Content with one elephant then pleased to have two, a girl begins having problems as her lonely pachyderms bring home more and more friends throughout this rhyming counting book.

This story in rhyme is bound to be seen as humorous by young children. Preschool age children will enjoy learning to count with this book.

The Pirates of Plagiarism
by Kathleen Fox

Summary: A pirate crew's plan to capture Mrs. Finch, the librarian, and a treasure chest in the library is foiled when a group of students come into the library to do research.

The humorous aspect of this story will be enjoyed by young ones, but most likely not completely comprehended by primary school students. I recommend this book as a read aloud for older elementary school students. The story is wonderful for discussing values, especially cheating and plagiarism.

My Rhinoceros
by Jon Agee

Summary: If you should ever get a rhinoceros for a pet, you're in for a surprise. It won't chase a ball, stick, or a Frisbee. In fact, according to the experts, a rhinoceros does only two things: pop balloons and poke holes in kites.

This nonsensical story is of mediocre value. Younger children with a silly sense of humor may enjoy this story.

Me and My Dragon
 by David Biedrzycki

Summary: A child tells all the reasons a small, fire-breathing dragon would make an excellent pet and the ways to take proper care of it.

This is a humorous story that is great simply for entertainment. Children will find the text silly but fun.

Dinosaur vs. the Potty

Dinosaur vs. the Potty
by Bob Shea

Summary: Dinosaur doesn't need to use the potty. Even when he's making lemonade, running through the sprinkler, and splashing in puddles. See? He's doing his victory dance. Wait, is that a victory dance, or something else?"

This is an amusing book about a dinosaur who thinks he is strong enough to resist using the potty. This book may be used to simply entertain a young child or to discuss with a child who is having trouble learning to use the bathroom.

Librarianjk recommends Everyone Poops

Everyone Poops
 by Taro Gomi

Summary: Explains the hows, whys and wherefores of defecation.

Who could resist doing a double take at the cover of this book? This book is of interest to many children who enjoy bathroom humor. Also, parents read this book to children during potty training. I could see it working for the child who is afraid of toilets. I think it is a little strange but whatever works is a good thing

Librarianjk recommends Parts

Parts
by Tedd Arnold

Summary: A five-year-old boy thinks his body is falling apart until he learns new teeth grow and hair and skin replace themselves.

This book is not for the easily grossed out! I recommend this book to the reluctant readers or listeners with a certain sense of humor who think that books are not cool. This book has sequels.
