A new addition to the A Little Princess Story series, this book is entertaining. I did not like this book in beginning because of the princess’ demanding behavior. However, the ending has a very nice message.

This is an adorable fractured fairytale! The pretty, though tomboyish looking girl, is a great character. If your child takes the “I am a princess” play a little too seriously, this is a great book to share with her.

Summary: In this humorous retelling of a Perrault tale, the fairy Ethelinda rewards one twin sister for good behavior and punishes the other for bad, only to discover that her punishment is more pleasing than her reward.

I recommend this book to children who enjoy fairytales and are requesting a chapter book. This book is very different from many fairytales. It explores that sometimes what we think will be wonderful is not, that good intentions do not always give us the best rewards, but in the end, things seem to work out.

Summary: A young sailor's love for a mermaid is preserved in the ring she fashions for him from a strand of her hair, but he finds himself in a dire dilemma when he remembers he has promised a lock of his sweetheart's hair to a mysterious old woman

This is a terrific story! I predicted that the ending would be tragic, but it was not. It is happy and dramatic but not extremely cheesy.
